Hannah’s spring break in Mexico is meant to be a reset before graduation and time with her best friend Emmy. Also included is the awkward bonus of being around Emmy’s older brother, her longtime crush.
When Emmy falls fast for a wealthy and charming stranger, Hannah is pushed into third-wheel territory. A last-day sail on a private boat sounds harmless enough until they’re the only vessel leaving the marina as a storm rolls in.
Out in open water, tension spikes and Hannah realizes this vacation may not end with everyone making it back to shore.
A story that reads like a high speed police chase without the police.
I'm not usually thrilled with locked-room mysteries but this defied my expectations which actually just means I'm a fool because Megan Lally knows how to write a great story.
This is like an alternate timeline of events for the characters of LOST if they willingly chartered a boat during a storm and also were teenagers meets GOSSIP GIRL (I can't explain why though) meets LORD OF THE FLIES meets YELLOWJACKETS kind of vibes........
THAT'S NOT MY NAME turned me upside down on my head and pulling my hair out with anxiety.
NO PLACE LEFT TO HIDE made me realize that I wasn't aware I could hate a character and love a book at the same time.
WHAT WE DID TO SURVIVE taught me that a majority of a story that takes place with 4 people stuck on a boat in the middle of the ocean is actually way more thrilling and engaging than I could've imagined.
It also made me feel true heartbreak BUT I CAN'T SAY WHY CAUSE SPOILERS.
Want a good book? Read this book.
Want a story that'll keep you literally gasping for air because you forget to breathe because you're so engrossed in the insanity unfolding on each page? Great look no further.
Thank me later :)
PS If I didn't make it clear... I really really liked this book.
